We launched in Canada and are actively building US support. Our tax engine is jurisdiction-aware by design — rules differ by province and state, and we handle that automatically so you don't have to.
How it started
PapayaLedger started because tax season was a nightmare. Our founder — freelancing on the side while holding a full-time job — spent every March digging through a year's worth of bank statements trying to figure out what was deductible. Sound familiar?
The first version was a simple receipt scanner. Then we added AI — “just tell it what you bought” — and something clicked. When we showed users their estimated tax savings in real time, the response was immediate: “I had no idea I was leaving this much on the table.”
So we went deeper. We built a jurisdiction-aware tax engine that understands Canadian federal and provincial rules. We added a Tax Readiness Score so users know exactly where they stand before April. We built a business profile that personalizes every deduction recommendation to your work situation.
Canada was our proving ground. North America is where we're going. The mission stays the same: give everyone the tax clarity they deserve, without the accountant bill.
